Restore a Robotmaster WIBU license after PC formatting
This article will show how to restore a Robotmaster WIBU license, in case that the PC has been formatted.
If a customer/partner loses a WIBU license after formatting the hard drive (for example, in case of a system failure), it is possible to automatically restore the license without the intervention of the Intercam/Hypertherm admin teams.
IMPORTANT NOTE: this procedure can be only done once. After that, Hypertherm will need to authorize the license restore.
Instructions
Identify any hardware changes
For auto-restore to work, WIBU needs to be able to identify the PC properly.
You can only auto-restore the license in the exact same PC where the license was installed before the system failure. Robotmaster licenses require 3 matching features from the list below (2 are already mandatory):
Board – Required
CPU – Required
Computer Name – Optional
Disk – Optional
Network adapter – Optional
Recommendations:
Maintain the same hardware unless it is strictly impossible (even requiring IT to set the PC back to its former state -for example, if they decide to swap the hard drive- at least until the license has been successfully restored)
Maintain the PC name from the previous Windows install (see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/rename-your-windows-10-pc-750bc75d-8ff8-e99a-b9dc-04dff566ae74 )
Restore the license
Even if the PC has been formatted (fresh Windows install), if the conditions above (same hardware + same PC name as before) are matched, the license can be restored.
Download and install the latest CodeMeter runtime (or install Robotmaster, which includes CodeMeter)
Type the customer’s license ticket ID
Click on “Restore Licenses”
See video for more details:
This auto-restore process only works once per license. If this happens more than once, we will need to request Hypertherm authorization to restore the license in the same PC.
If the hardware has changed, we will need to go through the admin process for Hypertherm to authorize the activation in a different PC (see the attached PDF with instructions).
